Rokivo’s Google Glass experience

Rokivo’s Google Glass experience. Museum becomes fully accessible to deaf people

Presented today at the Egyptian Antiquities Museum in Turin (Italy) the prototype of the first application designed for a wearable device that allows to translate cultural contents from a written language into sign language.

It was presented today the GOOGLEGLASS4LIS project, a solution that will allow the deaf people to access to the complete museum experience through the use, for the first time in the world, of a “wearable device”.

Developed by Rokivo Inc. and Vidiemme Consulting, in collaboration with research groups (Politecnico di Torino, University of Turin) and local institutions, the GOOGLEGLASS4LIS project allows to convert written texts into Italian Sign Language.

Written texts (E.g. the Ramesse II statue description) have been converted through the use of a virtual actor – an avatar, in the next future – in Sign Language and the video is directly displayed on Google Glass, in order to have a full museum fruition.

“For over a year – said Valerio Saffirio, co-founder of Rokivo Inc. – we work for development of projects related to mobile devices – such as those wearable – which represents one of the most interesting trial for culture business. GOOGLEGLASS4LIS is the first solution that we present – and also the one that makes us most proud of – because it is an opportunity to develop an idea that have strong social utility”.

“Each project developed for the Google Glass – continued Giulio Caperdoni, COO of Vidiemme Consulting- is an ongoing challenge for us: not only have we to do with a mobile technology and wearable, but also, and above all, we use a device in continuous evolution, of which there is not yet a stabilized form. It is therefore a great challenge to design and implement a concept by acquiring cutting-edge know-how, unique in Italy”.

Today, deaf people tried GOOGLEGLASS4LIS experience and they seemed really enthusiastic about it. Rokivo is proud to be part of this great socially useful project.
